Biografía y Trayectoria

Dr. Ángel Díaz-Lagares holds a PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Navarra, and he also completed his clinical laboratory specialization in Clinical Biochemistry at the University Clinic of Navarra. He subsequently conducted his postdoctoral research at the Cancer Epigenetics and Biology Program (PEBC) of the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBELL) in Barcelona, focusing on the role of epigenetic biomarkers and alterations in cancer development and progression.

He currently leads the Cancer Epigenomics Unit within the ONCOMET group at the Health Research Institute of Santiago de Compostela (IDIS). His research focuses on the discovery and validation of epigenetic biomarkers in liquid biopsy, with applications in early cancer detection, prognostic stratification, prediction of therapeutic response, and real-time monitoring of disease evolution. These efforts aim to advance precision oncology through the development of minimally invasive diagnostic tools.

In parallel to his research activities, Dr. Díaz-Lagares works as a clinical biochemist in the Genetics Laboratory of the Clinical Analysis Department at the University Hospital of Santiago de Compostela. He has authored more than 80 peer-reviewed articles, contributed to multiple book chapters, and has led or participated in more than 22 national and international research projects, including coordination of the European project EPILUNAR, focused on the Epigenomic Profiling of Liquid Biopsy and Immunotherapy Resistance in cancer. He also serves as Associate Editor of Advances in Laboratory Medicine, the official journal of the Spanish Society of Laboratory Medicine (SEMEDLAB).
