Marta Dueñas Porto
PhD, Hospital Universitario XBiografía y Trayectoria
Dr. Marta Dueñas Porto holds a PhD in Genetic Engineering and Molecular Biology from Lund University (1995). She has built a distinguished career in cancer research, with a particular focus on the genetic engineering of antibody fragments and the development of biomarkers for cancer diagnosis.
She currently leads the Molecular and Cellular GU Group within the Cancer Research Area at the Research Institute of Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre (Madrid). Dr. Dueñas is also a member of the Molecular Mechanisms Program at CIBERONC (CB16/12/00228), actively contributing to nationwide collaborative initiatives in translational oncology.
Her research expertise includes liquid biopsy technologies such as qPCR, NanoString, and dPCR, applied to the detection and characterization of miRNA biomarkers in human biofluids. These approaches underpin the development of the BlaDimiR tools, currently being evaluated in a multicenter, nationwide clinical trial for the diagnosis, follow-up, and companion diagnostics of bladder cancer.
Dr. Dueñas has served as Principal Investigator in more than 20 national and international research projects. Her dedication to academic mentorship is reflected in the supervision of six PhD theses and over 20 Master’s projects, as well as her ongoing support for early-career researchers. She is the author of 75 peer-reviewed publications and has an H-index of 32.
